Our Story

hef Star Ironside is a seasoned culinary professional with twenty years of experience in the industry. She holds both a Diplôme de Cuisine and a Diplôme de Pâtisserie from the prestigious French culinary academy, Le Cordon Bleu. Additionally, Chef Ironside is a certified culinarian and has earned various certifications from the American Culinary Federation (ACF). She has trained under two ACF Certified Master Chefs and has actively participated in numerous culinary competitions within the ACF network. One of her most cherished awards comes from the United States Special Forces, recognizing her contributions to morale while stationed at Fort Bragg. Her extensive travels across the U.S. and around the world have allowed her to refine her palate and develop a unique style of flavor fusion that appeals to a wide range of tastes.

Currently, Chef Ironside resides in the picturesque Flathead Valley with her husband and youngest son. Six years ago, Star and her husband, Marty, decided to leave the corporate world and launch a taco truck called S&M Tacos. The venture quickly gained popularity, becoming a beloved fixture at local festivals, markets, events, and breweries. Encouraged by its success, the couple opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant inspired by their taco truck.

In March 2019, The House of S&M was established in The Emporium building, located in beautiful downtown Kalispell. Star was captivated by her vision for the building and assembled an investment group to purchase it. Through hard work, dedication, and a lot of paint, Star and Marty transformed the once dilapidated structure into a gem of the downtown area. The Avenue at The Emporium has since evolved into an active indoor mini-mall and event venue. As part of her vision for The Avenue, Chef Ironside transitioned The House of S&M to focus exclusively on catering and private dining experiences.

A firm believer in the spirit of giving, Chef Ironside has a strong footprint in the local community.  She serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Flathead Food Bank, as well as the Vice President of the Montana Wedding Association. Additionally, she is an alumnus of Leadership Flathead, a sustaining member of Women Who Wine, and a member of the Kalispell, Columbia Falls, and Whitefish Chamber of Commerce.

Taste.

Savor.

Relish.

Consider every morsel you place inside your mouth.

Be mindful.

But do not just eat.”
